Winsor & Newton and Liquitex Partner with TerraCycle to Launch the Liquitex and Winsor & Newton Free Recycling Program

11/06/2025

Winsor & Newton® and Liquitex®, two of the most respected names in the art materials industry, are proud to announce a pioneering partnership with international recycling leader TerraCycle® to launch the Liquitex and Winsor & Newton Free Recycling Program in the United States. This initiative provides artists with a way to recycle traditionally unrecyclable materials, such as used paint tubes and marker pens.

For generations, Winsor & Newton and Liquitex have supported artists with materials of the highest quality. Now, that commitment extends beyond creation to care for the environment. Through this program, artists can return their used Winsor & Newton and Liquitex products, knowing they’ll be recycled into materials that can be used to make new items—like outdoor furniture and storage containers.

“We are thrilled to partner with TerraCycle on this important sustainability initiative,” said Sarah Clark, VP Marketing at Colart. “This program not only helps artists responsibly dispose of their used materials but also aligns with our commitment to a more sustainable future for creativity.”

Steve Chamberlin, General Manager at Colart, added: “This partnership with TerraCycle is a significant step towards closing the loop on our materials. By providing artists with a responsible solution for end-of-life products, we are taking meaningful action to reduce waste and promote sustainability in the art community.”

Tom Szaky, Founder and CEO of TerraCycle, offered: “Used art supplies, like paint tubes and markers, typically end up in landfills because they’re difficult to recycle through conventional systems. By working with Winsor & Newton and Liquitex, we’re making it easier for artists to manage this waste responsibly supporting both creativity and environmental progress.”

Program Details:

  • What can be recycled: All Winsor & Newton tubes (e.g., oil, watercolor, acrylic) and Promarkers, as well as all Liquitex tubes and marker pens.
  • How it works: Participation is simple: visit Winsor & Newton / Liquitex to sign up, and download a prepaid shipping label. Place the accepted items in any box you have on hand, apply the label, and ship it to TerraCycle. Artists are encouraged to squeeze out as much remaining product as possible before sending their used materials to TerraCycle. There’s no need to clean them and TerraCycle can handle the rest.
  • What TerraCycle does: TerraCycle specializes in recycling hard-to-recycle materials. They break down the collected items and process them into raw materials like plastic pellets that can be used to make new products, keeping waste out of landfills and incinerators
